Kıble Pusulası (Qibla Compass) is our focused utility app that accurately determines the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca from the user's current GPS location using a combination of device compass, accelerometer, and GPS data fusion. Accuracy and reliability in all conditions—indoors, in basements, on moving vehicles—were the primary design constraints.
Sensor fusion is the technical core of the app. Consumer-grade phone compasses are affected by magnetic interference from metal structures, electrical wiring, and nearby electronics. Our calibration algorithm continuously monitors sensor readings for anomalies and prompts users to re-calibrate when interference is detected, maintaining accuracy in environments where a naive compass implementation would give wrong answers.
The interface is deliberately minimal: a compass needle, the Qibla direction indicator, and GPS coordinates. Daily-use utility apps should not require the user's attention beyond the task they opened the app for. Loading time is under two seconds, the main screen is immediately functional, and there are no unnecessary navigation steps.
Kıble Pusulası demonstrates our sensor integration experience and our discipline in building focused utility applications that work reliably across a wide range of device types and environmental conditions. It is a reference for clients building any location or orientation-dependent mobile feature.
Combines compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, and GPS in a calibration algorithm that compensates for magnetic interference and device tilt. Accurate even in environments that defeat simpler compass implementations.
Detects when compass readings are unreliable due to interference and prompts the user to calibrate with a specific device motion. Error is surfaced before it causes a wrong result, not after.
Single-screen design with no navigation overhead. The user opens the app and immediately sees the direction they need. Every unnecessary element was removed to keep loading time and cognitive load minimal.
Sensor sampling rates are tuned for accuracy while minimising battery drain. The app is designed to be kept open during prayer without noticeably affecting battery life.
Tested on budget Android devices with older sensor hardware as well as current flagships. Sensor fusion algorithms are adaptive to different hardware quality levels to maintain acceptable accuracy across the full device range.
